Beginnings

The Copywriter Outdoors

Back a few years, OK, maybe more than a few, I was born in a farmhouse on my Granddad’s ranch. This was in a remote area in Southern Africa known as the “lowveld”; low altitude, hot summer rainfall country.

Out in the bush, far from the closest town, that’s where I got my love for the outdoors. And a better start for a young kid one could not wish for.

The Journey

From those early days, my passion for the outdoors has been fueled by almost 30 years in various outdoors professions. I have worked on farms and in agricultural development. I managed game farms. and led safari ventures.

My journey has taken me from the remote wilderness areas of Southern Africa to the spectacular beauty of South Island New Zealand, from harsh, arid Southern Afghanistan, all the way to the wet, green Pacific Northwest of the United States.

During this journey, it has been a blessing and an inspiration to have 4 kids who share my passion for the outdoors.

The discovery of persuasive writing during my years in development work was a “Lightbulb moment”. Combining my passion for the outdoors with my new adventure in persuasive writing led naturally to copywriting for the outdoor industry.

So now, instead of tracking poachers, I’m tracking prepositions.
